Is there a way to delete those pesky comments? Can anyone tell me how?

for starters, you can turn on "word verification" in the blog's dashboard. I know there are alternatives less bothersome to "real commenters", but that should do the trick in the meantime.
And: don't drown. Remember: just breathe. hang in there.
You go through as if you are going to leave a comment. Then you will notice that little trash can icon near the comments. Click on the trash can icon next to the spam comment. When the next screen comes up, be sure to check the box that says "delete this comment permanently."
That should get rid of the comment. Sometimes it takes a few minutes.
